I'm about to blow your mind! It's Halloween and the season for carving pumpkins is in full swing. I'm sure you've noticed how quickly a carved pumpkin shrivels and rots. It's not uncommon to wait until the day before to cut it, so it can look fresh and cute on your doorstep for the trick or treaters.
BUT... what if I told you there is ONE thing you can do differently to allow you to cut that pumpkin NOW and for it to still look good on Halloween- that's FIVE days away. You ready?? Here it is...
Cut into your pumpkin at the bottom, not the top!
That's it. It's that easy!
Traditionally, we cut the hole at the top, but that's probably the worst thing you can for the life of your pumpkin. Removing the stem of any fruit or vegetable will break it down faster. By cutting at the bottom, the decay won't start from the top and trickle down and your pumpkin will stay firmer longer. And BONUS- you can cut it straight so it doesn't lean and topple over. Give it a try this year and let us know what you think.
Happy Halloween and may your pumpkin stay fresh and festive!
